Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pear Protocol?

Pear is the home of agentic long/short trading. Orchard is its non-custodial engine for pair and basket trades on perpetual futures, routing to venues like Hyperliquid and Lighter (plus Binance, Bybit, and OKX in Pear Pro). You take simultaneous long and short positions from one UI, with an AI co-pilot (Agent Pear), live stats, and Auto-Rebalance doing the heavy lifting. Pear never holds your funds.

Why trade pairs instead of just going long or short?

A single directional bet is really two bets your specific view and a bet that the whole market cooperates. Pair trading strips out the second. You trade relative performance "SOL outperforms ETH," "BTC underperforms ETH," "L2s beat majors," so you're insulated from broad market swings and your outcome hinges on which side wins. It works in any tape: bull, bear, or chop.

Is Pear Protocol a DEX?

No. Pear is a trading and routing layer, not an exchange. Pear does not custody funds or match trades. It splits your order into long and short legs and routes them to the venue you choose. Execution and settlement happen on that venue.

Is Pear available on mobile?

Yes. There's a Base app on Base (mini.pear.garden) for trading baskets on the go, Agent Pear on Telegram, and the web app runs in mobile browsers.

How does execution work?

Orchard is an engine, not an exchange or custodian. It splits your trade into long and short legs (one each for a pair, many for a basket) and dispatches them together in one batched request to the venue, minimizing execution mismatch on the ratio. You always control your funds.

Where are my funds held?

Pear never holds your funds. It depends on the venue:

  • Hyperliquid / Lighter: you deposit collateral into the venue's non-custodial engine; Orchard manages positions without custody.
  • Pear Pro CEX (Binance, Bybit, OKX): funds stay on the exchange; you connect a trade account via venue API keys.
  • Vaults: deposits are on-chain on HyperEVM.

What assets can I trade?

Perp markets on Hyperliquid and Lighter (plus Binance/Bybit/OKX in Pear Pro). Beyond crypto, you can trade equity perps and other asset classes (HIP-3 markets on Hyperliquid, equities/FX/commodities on Lighter) and even equities-vs-crypto in a single basket (all legs must list on one venue). Orchard auto-surfaces the markets each venue supports.

What's the difference between a pair and a basket?

A pair is one long against one short. A basket is many longs against many shorts, up to 15 legs per position (both sides combined), held as one position with one PnL, one funding number, and one set of risk controls. Use a basket to trade a whole narrative instead of a single name.

What is Auto-Rebalance?

An opt-in setting that keeps a position on target as the market moves. Weights mode snaps each leg back to your initial weights; Beta mode holds the position beta-neutral. Set a drift threshold and Orchard rebalances when the position crosses it.

How do I hedge impermanent loss as an LP?

Use a trigger pair trade. If you LP a concentrated position, say PEPE/ETH, arm a pair trade (short PEPE, long ETH) that activates if price leaves your LP range, offsetting the impermanent loss. Pear's trigger and ladder orders make this kind of conditional hedge straightforward.

Agent Pear & automation

What is Agent Pear?

Your AI trading co-pilot. Ask by text or voice for a market read, a pair or basket idea, or a review of your book, and it researches (with web and X citations), proposes a structured trade with a thesis and suggested leverage, and lets you open it in a tap. It publishes regularly generated Signals too. Execution is a toggle: by default Agent Pear writes a trade ticket you verify and execute, with an optional fully-auto mode. It executes in Telegram DM and the Pear V3 web app once your wallet and trade accounts are linked; on Pear Pro, the Pear Base app, and in Telegram groups it's analysis-only. See Agent Pear.

Is there an API? Can I connect my own agent?

Yes to both. Orchard offers an API for strategy automation (see API Integration) and an MCP server so you can connect your own LLM agent or workflow to Pear's market data and execution the same surface that powers Agent Pear.

Vaults, token & safety

What are Vaults?

Managed pools that run long/short strategies. Deposit into a vault to back a proven pair trader, or run your own (set your own performance and withdrawal fees). Vaults are ERC-4626 contracts on HyperEVM that deploy capital to Hyperliquid accounts. Launching soon.

How do fees work?

When you trade via Pear:

  • You pay the normal trading fees of the underlying venue
  • You can cut fees with stPEAR staking tiers or the referral discount (volume rebates ended with the V3 launch)
  • On Hyperliquid, trades carry Pear's builder code for attribution and fee collection

Do I need to hold $PEAR to use Pear?

No. Anyone can use Pear without holding $PEAR.
